Here's my contribution to Erick's request that we try to jumpstart the forums, and recapture a little of what we use to have before Facebook pulled us away. I'll borrow some things from here & there to stimulate discussion – or not.
For the past eight years, approximately 2 million Americans a day have been subjected to humiliating searches at airport security checkpoints, forced to remove their shoes and jackets, to open their computers, and to remove all liquids from their carry-on bags, all in the name of keeping air travel safe.
Since Muslims took down Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988, every attack on a commercial airliner has been committed by foreign-born Muslim men with the same hair color, eye color and skin color. Half of them have been named Mohammed.
Is it now time for our government to employ the one security precaution that they have refused to consider ~ requiring extra screening for passengers who looked like the last three-dozen terrorists to attack airplanes?
It is time for our government to perform the only possibly effective security check — search Muslims and quit harassing infinitely compliant Americans.

So we should just let the towel heads keep killing us in the name of political correctness?

No. We just shouldn't make bigotry an official policy, especially given that it wouldn't be terribly effective. Targeting brown people so that us fine white folk aren't bothered is no better a plan than random selection-there are numerous infinitely compliant muslim americans who you want to harass for no good reason

Bigotry? You can't be serious. How paying special attention to the demographic that is responsible for this type of terrorism bigotry? How would this not be more effective?
To use your racial red herring, fine white people ain't trying to blow up planes, young, single muslim males are….well, at least until we get some more home grown white-boy muslims.

Mildly hyperbolic, but yes, I'm serious. Targetting an entire group because of the actions of a few is absurd.
As far as effectiveness, I'll repeat–targetting an entire group because of the actions of a few is absurd. First, there are simply too many responsible folk who meet your description, which makes targetting via physcial characteristic a little like finding a needle in a haystack. Perhaps if we had the resources to target every single brown person for harassment(your word), it might prove effective(right up until the point where tactics are changed), but we don't live in a world of infinte resources. So instead we woudl harass a small selection of people who don't look like you-again, hardly better(if at all) than random selection. Behavioral assessment is more reasonable, more civil, and more likely to make substantive improvements.

Racial profiling, no, but perhaps something should be done to closely monitor the activity of Muslims in America. I'd support something akin to what is done in France with evangelical Christians to enforce their no proselytizing laws. They have people who work for the gendarmes who actually attend church services to look for that kind of thing.
While I don't like the French 'no proselytizing' laws for any number of reasons, Pat is dead on that it's not Irish Catholics or Mennonites that are bringing the bombs on board in their shoes and in their wieners, and should be monitored. Yes, the next Muslim bomber could be blonde with blue eyes.

I'm listening to NPR at this time. They just interviewed Paul Westergaard, the Danish cartoonist who drew the Prophet Mohammed with a bomb in his turban. As you all know, his home was attacked on New Year's Day by someone wishing to kill him.
Something drastic and perhaps draconian must be done about radical Islam. It's time to monitor the mosques.

I was listening to "All Things Belabored" on NPR this afternoon; Noah Adams was interviewing a professor of creative writing from UCLA who wrote a book on jihad. He was talking about the increase in the number of professionals – doctors, lawyers and such – who are joining the jihad movements.
Got me to thinking – how will we defend against suicide bombers who have the explosive device surgically implanted in their bellies? Makes sense that such a thing is on the horizon.
Absurd? Based on what, Corey, your opinion? The Israelis do a fine job with security, by targeting those who meet a terrorist profile for additional screening. It may politically distasteful, but necessary.

Right, Israel found explosives in Anne Mary Murphy's bag because they profile.
At least one study shows it comes up lacking.
But, yes. My opinion is playing a large part in my position. And your own opinion is forming your own. Not sure why that matters. But that you would claim an action is harassment if directed toward a white woman but perfectly acceptable if directed toward some good friends of mine(who are compliant americans, just the same as you, despite the fact that they committed the grave sin of being born brown) is not just politically distasteful to me. I find such a stance repulsive. Especially that the best evidence you have is a toss out of Israel, while ignoring that they employ much more sophisticated screening strategies–despite your claim that targeting brown people is the only possibly effective security check

To follow up on this, I heard a report last night on ABC Radio News that Indian intelligence believes al-Qaedia is planning an attack with non-islamic looking women.

I have good friends who are brown too, Corey. What should we do now – compare how many good gay friends we have?
A high colonic would help you greatly.
Saw this http://www.wnd.com/index.php?f…..eId=123758 today – exploding boobies. How does one get a job checking for these?
